Apply for a Service Dog

Service Dogs assist individuals with physical disabilities by opening doors, fetching wheelchairs, retrieving dropped items, operating light switches, moving paralyzed limbs and getting help.

To apply for a Service Dog:

  • You must be a resident of Texas
  • The Service Dog needs to be the only dog in the home. Other types of pets (cats, etc.) are okay, but another dog is too big a distraction to training.
  • THSD does not train a dog already owned by an applicant.
  • You must be at least 18 years old to apply. We prefer dealing directly with the person applying for the Hearing or Service Dog.

What happens after I apply?
After we receive your completed application and $25 non-refundable application fee, we will schedule you to attend an Applicant Orientation at our Training Campus in Dripping Springs, near Austin. Read about the Applicant Orientation.
