Congratulations to Sarah who earned her gold SDI Volunteer shirt after volunteering for 15 hours at our training center. Volunteers work their way up from Luv Pup and Dynamic Dog to World Class Canine, gaining experience, knowledge and responsibility as they build expertise. Sometimes, they even join our staff as Trainers!

“Having volunteers is extremely important to the SDI staff and inner workings of the kennels,” explains SDI Volunteer Coordinator Dawn Thiem. “Volunteers allow our trainers to train more and our kennel staff to spend more time with the dogs, working their minds and bodies.”

Volunteers receive their shirts after completing 15 hours of service. This also qualifies them to move to the Level II, The Dynamic Dog Level of volunteering. Here they can help our staff and work more hands on with the dogs in Relationship Sessions, sits, downs, and eye contact.

After 30 hours, volunteers advance to Level III, World Class Canine where they receive training for increased solo activities with dogs, such as playing fetch, scent games and structured play sessions with staff and other volunteers.
