First Responder Facility Dogs
Supporting First Responder resiliency.
First responders, including police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians (EMTs), face significant challenges to their mental health and well-being as a result of their jobs. Their roles expose them to high levels of stress and traumatic scenes on a daily basis, leading to a higher risk of developing behavioral health conditions. First responders suffer from a 30% higher suicide rate than the general public. At least 10% of First Responders are veterans.
“I have seen the ill effects of PTSD on my fellow Firefighters & Police officers, and have personally experienced those same issues. Immediately after Rudy moved in with me, I noticed that everywhere we went, the mood of everyone we met was uplifted. Every meeting we attended was upbeat, and the interaction between Rudy and the staff brought people closer together. I have been told numerous times after interacting with staff that 'Rudy made it worth coming to work today.'” - Lee Stanphill, Battalion Chief / Paramedic, District 7, San Antonio, Texas
